01

Plain Cylindrical Spacers & Sleeves

Round spacers for load distribution, axis separation, and unthreaded standoff applications.

02

Stepped & Shoulder Spacers

Dual-diameter profiles for locating assemblies, aligning bearings, and passing through panel cutouts.

03

Threaded Standoffs

Internal or external Metric and UNC/UNF threads machined into non-conductive plastic bodies.

04

Flanged Bushings

Integrated flange profiles that absorb axial thrust loads or isolate fasteners from housing surfaces.

05

Hexagonal & Square Spacers

Wrench-flat geometries designed for assembly in tight enclosures and restricted access areas.

Process Selection

CNC machining versus injection molding

The right production process affects unit cost, tooling expense, and lead time. CNC machining is particularly well suited to prototypes, low-to-mid volume work, design changes, and heavy-wall spacer geometries.

CNC Machining

Low volume
  • Zero mold tooling: Avoid NRE tooling fees ranging from $2,000 to $15,000+.
  • Tighter control: No sink marks, draft-angle requirements, or unpredictable molding shrinkage.
  • Heavy walls: Thick-wall spacers can be produced without molding voids and warp.
  • Fast iteration: Drawing updates require program modification rather than mold rework.

Injection Molding

Often considered for high-volume production where significant tooling investment can be balanced by a lower piece price.

Material Selection Guide

Match the polymer to the operating environment

Mechanical, thermal, chemical, electrical, and wear requirements all influence the best spacer material.

POM (Acetal / Delrin)

High mechanical strength, excellent dimensional stability, low moisture absorption, and smooth wear. Used for machinery spacers, precision sleeves, gears, and low-friction bushings.

PTFE (Teflon)

Exceptional chemical inertness, -200°C to +260°C temperature resistance, ultra-low friction, and high dielectric strength. Suitable for chemical processing and high-temperature isolation.

Nylon (PA6 / PA66)

High tensile strength, wear resistance, and damping properties. Suitable for wear sleeves, structural spacers, and machinery mounts. Nylon absorbs moisture.

PEEK

Extreme thermal stability up to 250°C continuous, high mechanical strength, and chemical and radiation resistance for semiconductor, aerospace, and medical equipment.

UHMWPE

Extremely high impact strength, self-lubrication, and excellent abrasion resistance for material handling guides, wear plates, and food processing spacers.

Polycarbonate (PC)

Transparent, impact-resistant, and electrically insulating for optical equipment spacers, clear guards, and electrical covers.

Quality-Controlled Production

A process designed for precision plastics

Thermal expansion, elastic recovery, and internal stress require dedicated tooling and controlled machining setups.

01

Stress relieving

Material conditioning before machining helps stabilize the workpiece.

02

High-speed CNC

Turning and milling with positive-rake, polished carbide tooling made for plastics.

03

Deburring

Hand deburring, high-pressure washing, or cryogenic deburring when specified.

04

Dimensional inspection

Climate-controlled checks using digital micrometers, optical comparators, and CMM equipment.

Plastic machining standards at SpacerMFG

Sharp, dedicated tooling: Positive-rake, polished carbide tooling prevents material smear and melt.

Coolant and heat control: Temperature-controlled air blast or specialized water-soluble coolants help prevent thermal expansion.

Burr removal: Ductile burrs are removed according to the drawing and project requirements.

Quality inspection: Critical dimensions are verified under controlled conditions with precision measurement equipment.

Industry Applications

Plastic spacers for demanding OEM programs

Industrial Automation & Robotics

Lightweight, low-wear POM and Nylon shaft spacers, linear drive isolation collars, and sensor mounting standoffs.

Electronics & Test Instrumentation

Non-conductive PTFE and Polycarbonate standoffs for PCB isolation, power supply barrier spacing, and RF shielding.

Medical & Analytical Equipment

Biocompatible, sterilizable PEEK and PTFE components for fluid handling manifolds and diagnostic instruments.

Semiconductor Manufacturing

Chemically resistant, high-purity PEEK and Teflon spacers for wafer handling modules and wet processing tools.

Automotive & Assembly Fixtures

Wear-resistant UHMW and Nylon locator sleeves, assembly jig spacers, and sliding guides.
